The Lüderitz Speed Challenge is an annual speed sailing event normally held October - November each year. Challengers from all over the world come to participate in this event.
The last known record was set by Robert Douglas from the USA in 2010, reaching a speed of 55,65 knots (about 101km/hr) over a 500m stretch.
A canal is opened in the lagoon at Lüderitz.
