Truce Tree (Kuruman)

In 1914 during the rebellion 1200 rebels invaded the town of Kuruman with the intention of getting supplies. After a scuffle between the troupes the defense responsible for Kuruman retreated.

Even though the rebels didn't take the town, a treaty was signed under this tree between General JC Kemp who surrendered to Capt. JP Frylinck on 8 November 1914.

The treaty guaranteed the safety of the government forces in return for a free passage through Kuruman. The rebels were also allowed to replenish their supplies. This camel thorn tree stands proud on the side of Seodin Road and holds history under its branches.
