Execution Tree (Griekwastad)

 

The execution tree where Waterboer hanged criminals. The leaders were Adam Kok II and Andries Waterboer. In 1813, at the instigation of Rev John Campbell, the ‘bastaards’ renamed themselves Griqua, and the place called Klaarwater became Griquatown.
