Snakes of South Africa - identification, questions, behaviour & snakebites

Facebook site for Snakes of South Africa.

This Group will help you identify Southern African snakes and answer any questions you may have about them. Although we focus on snakes of South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Mozambique, photographs of snakes from elsewhere in Africa may also be posted.

Snakes of Southern Africa is committed to creating and servicing a community that is interested in snakes, their behaviour, and identifying them, and providing information on snakebite, first aid for snakebite and the medical care of snakebite. We ask our members to do their part in complying with these rules.

All discussions should be conducted in a respectful manner and any form of rudeness or profanity (including abbreviations) will not be tolerated. Anyone is entitled to a viewpoint and may differ on various issues, provided it is done respectfully and without insults or personal attacks. Incorrect information that is posted will be questioned and/or removed.

While members are encouraged to identify snakes that appear in photographs, such identifications should be accompanied by an explanation highlighting details that lead to the identification. There are a number of experts on the page that will provide guidelines and ultimately provide a positive identification.
